Who Is Standard Life?

Standard Life was incorporated in 1946 and acquired by ManhattanLife in 2020. The company also offers health insurance, traditional life insurance, senior preferred life insurance, wealth transfer life insurance, and annuities. They offer Medigap plans in 29 states.

What Medicare Supplement Plans Does Standard Life Offer?

Standard Life offers eight Medigap plans in the range.

Plan A – This policy offers limited benefits for Medicare Part A, excluding the Part A deductible. The plan also covers Medicare Part B copays and coinsurance but no other Medicare Part B expenses.

Plan B – Plan B has benefits similar to Plan A but covers the Medicare Part A deductible.

Plan C – Plan C offers beneficiaries near-comprehensive coverage. This policy doesn’t cover the costs of Medicare Part B excess charges, but it does cover the Medicare Part B deductible.

Plan D – This policy offers near-comprehensive coverage for Medicare Part A & B expenses. However, it doesn’t cover the Medicare Part B deductible or excess charges.

Plan F – The most comprehensive option in the Medigap range. Plan F covers all Medicare Part A & B expenses, including the Part B deductible.

Plan F (HD) – A high-deductible version of Plan F. You get the same benefits as the standard version of the plan, but your Medicare Part A deductible increases from $1,600 to $2,700.

Plan G – Plan G covers everything that Plan F does, except the Medicare Part B deductible.

Plan N – This policy comes with copayments of $20 at the doctor’s office and $50 at the emergency room if you’re not admitted into the hospital. It doesn’t cover Medicare Part B excess charges.

The CMS, a federal agency, regulates Standard Life Medigap plan benefits. The CMS brings consistency to the Medigap industry, ensuring all providers offer the same standardized Medigap benefits.

All Medigap plans offer the following benefits for Original Medicare Parts A & B.

      • Part A coinsurance and hospital costs for up to 365 days after using up Medicare benefits.
      • Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment.
      • Part B coinsurance or copayment.
      • Blood transfusion costs for the first three pints of blood.

Plans C*, F*, G, and N offer additional Medicare Parts A & B benefits.

      • Part A deductible.
      • Part B excess charges (Plan N doesn’t cover these charges).
      • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance.
      • 80% of emergency healthcare costs when traveling outside the US for 60 days. ($250 deductible and $50,000 maximum apply).
      • Unlimited coverage for all out-of-pocket costs.

Standard Life Medicare Supplement Plans – Benefits & Coverage*Medigap Plans C & F are being phased out and are unavailable to seniors qualifying for Original Medicare after January 1, 2020. If you qualified for Medicare before this date and have not enrolled in Medigap, you can still request a Plan C or F policy.

What Standard Life Medicare Supplement Plans Don't Cover

Standard Life Medicare supplement plans don’t cover the cost of medical expenses not covered by Original Medicare Parts A & B. You don’t have coverage for prescriptions, private-duty nursing, or stays at unskilled nursing homes.

There’s no coverage for preventative treatments like physiotherapy, acupuncture, podiatry, and chiropractic.

Medigap policies don’t cover the cost of cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening, and there’s no coverage for vision, dental, or hearing services. However, Standard Life’s parent company, ManhattanLife, does offer standalone dental, hearing, and vision plans as an add-on to your Medigap policy.

Standard Life doesn’t offer Medigap beneficiaries direct perks or additional benefits. However, beneficiaries can sign up for coverage through its parent company Manhattan Life for dental, vision, and hearing coverage in most states.

However, beneficiaries must wait at least 12 months to receive these high-cost services. Other smaller time restrictions may apply to coverage for certain services. Medigap policies come with a maximum yearly benefit of $1,000 or $1,500, depending on your chosen benefits, and an annual deductible of $100.
