Medicare supplement plans (Medigap plans) are supplemental insurance for the out-of-pocket costs associated with Original Medicare Part A & B benefits. Medicare only covers 80% of many Parts A & B expenses, leaving the beneficiary to pay to balance.
Medicare Parts A & B are federally-funded programs, but Medigap policies are available from private healthcare insurers, such as:
- Mutual of Omaha
- Cigna
- Aetna
- Allstate & More.
The CMS regulates the benefits of Medigap plans, bringing consistency to the industry. So, the benefits you get in a Medigap plan from Manhattan Life are the same as with any other provider.
Medigap Plan G is fast becoming the most popular Medicare supplemental policy. Plan F is the only other policy offering more comprehensive coverage.
However, Plan F is discontinued for seniors eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020. As a result, Plan G is the next best option for seniors looking for the best coverage from their Medigap policy.
This post looks at Manhattan Life Medicare supplement Plan G. We’ll unpack the benefits available in the plan, the average premiums, and the perks available from Manhattan Life.

What Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan G Doesn't Cover
Medigap Plan G doesn’t cover medical or hospital expenses not covered by Original Medicare Parts A & B. If Original Medicare doesn’t cover it, Medigap won’t either. Medigap Plan G doesn’t cover stays at unskilled nursing facilities or private-duty nursing services.
Medigap policies don’t cover prescriptions; only Medicare Part D covers this expense. There’s no coverage for hearing, dental, or vision services. Medigap plans don’t cover the cost of preventative services from chiropractors, acupuncturists, physiotherapists, and podiatrists.
However, Medicare might cover dental, physiotherapy, and chiropractic services if deemed medically necessary by your doctor. In this case, Medigap would cover the out-of-pocket costs left behind by Original Medicare.
Does Manhattan Life Offer High-Deductible Plan G?
Plan G is available in a standard and “high-deductible” version. The high-deductible version of Plan G offers all the same benefits as Original Medicare Parts A & B. However, it increases the Medicare Part A deductible in 2025 to $1,676. In return for a higher deductible, beneficiaries receive up to 80% savings on premiums for the standard version.
What's Better? – Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan G or N?
Plans F, G, & N are the most popular options for Medigap beneficiaries. Since Plan F is unavailable for Medicare beneficiaries eligible after January 1, 2020, Plans G & N are the next best options. Plan N is more affordable and a better choice for healthy seniors who don’t use many medical or hospital services during the year.
With Plan N, you have a $20 copayment at the doctor’s and a $50 copayment at the emergency room if the doctor doesn’t admit you to the hospital. Plan N doesn’t cover the Medicare Part B deductible or excess charges. Excess charges are the fees incurred above the Medicare-approved amount when consulting with the doctor.
Plan G is the best choice for seniors needing medical emergency coverage. Or those who take more trips to the doctor or emergency during the year.
